When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, Texas in August 2017, help was needed. The call was made to Texas Kosher BBQ, now known as Kosher Palate, in Dallas, Texas. With the only portable kosher kitchen in the area, Howard Chaim Goldfeder, owner, knew what needed to be done. He put together a team of employees and volunteers to travel down to Houston, not knowing what lay ahead. Within 72 hours of the call, Texas Kosher BBQ was up and running serving thousands of kosher meals to those in need. In addition to being in Houston for about a week, Texas Kosher BBQ together with community volunteers in Dallas continued to send down and distribute food in Houston for the weeks that followed.
Texas Jewish Community Response was founded in hopes to continue to provide resources and relief in times of need. Our team was there, providing for people during the Texas Tornados of 2019.
More recently TJCR has helped support the Dallas Jewish Community during the Deep Freeze of Winter 2021. Our team provided hot meals for a thousand people a day, many of whom did not have power or running water. In addition we organized for licensed electricians and plumbers, all volunteers, to come from out of state to help with relief work.
Currently, with Hurricane Ida making its mark, TJCR together with Kosher Palate, is preparing to deploy resources into the heart of the Louisiana Jewish Community to provide hot kosher meals for all those affected.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Any funds not used for this relief effort will be used for future relief efforts as well as to ensure there is food for those in need throughout the Greater Jewish Community.
